The Russell County Area Community Foundation (RCACF) recently awarded $28,711 in grants to USD 407.

“RCACF is pleased to partner with USD 407 to provide students and teachers grants that support a terrific learning environment,” said Angie Muller, executive director.

The school district will receive $18,000 to support the Small World Initiative, a research-based program from Yale University that helps students study microbiology, learn cutting-edge STEM applications, and increase their achievement at Russell High School.

Russell High School was also awarded $6,820 to purchase equipment for Bronco Media so students can expand original content and events coverage to include sports, musicals, board meetings, athletic and academic events, parades and festivals.

Elementary-aged students will cultivate a love of reading thanks to a $3,435 grant that helps them attend the Fort Hays State University Young Readers’ Conference.

USD 407 will receive $456 to work with the Russell Regional Hospital athletic trainer to purchase tools and equipment to safely and quickly remove football helmets from an injured athlete in an emergency situation.

Funding for the grants comes from the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, USD 407 Appleseed Fund and the Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund. For more information on RCACF grant programs, visit www.rcacf.net or call 785-445-3611.
