Monday, August 19th, 2019

RUSSELL, Kan.—The Russell County Area Community Foundation is now accepting applications for fall grants. Online applications are due Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Last fall, Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK) was awarded a community foundation grant to purchase a new I-Lift 450 Power Lift and extend the wheelchair-accessible outdoor patio at the Pioneer Developmental Center, a day service program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“DSNWK envisions a world free of barriers where people with disabilities are included in all aspects of community life. Unfortunately, getting outside hasn’t been easily accessible and was often challenging for people with disabilities,” said grantee Cynthia Davis. “In this case, the patio extension has been a simple but life-enhancing addition to the persons who use the Pioneer Developmental Center in Russell.”

Last fall, a community foundation grant helped Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas purchase a new power lift and extend their outdoor patio space, making it more accessible for persons in wheelchairs.

This year, more than $100,000 is available for charitable community improvement projects within Russell County and communities served by USD 399 and USD 407. Grants will be awarded from the following funds:

  • Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund – available for programs and projects that address education, health care, community social services and security, conservation and environment, arts and culture, and community beautification.
  • Helen A. Hampl Student Aid Fund – provides aid to Russell County students in preschool and grade school. Grant applications should be submitted by teachers.
  • Russell Schools Apple Seed Fund – supports projects that enhance the education of Russell public school students.
  • Russell Area Health Fund – supports the public health of the Russell County area.

Grants are limited to the Russell County area and communities served by USD 399 and USD 407. Non-profit organizations including government and public entities, educational institutions, and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on October 15.
