Gift of Oil and Gas Helps Students Dream Big

The Joshua Fund is a permanent endowment of several million dollars helping students graduating from a high school in Russell County attend the college, university, vocation or technical school of their choice. The gift was made possible through the generosity of Dr. Starr F. Schlobohm who desired to share his success in the oil and gas business with the Russell County area.

Upon his death in February 2012, the Foundation received a $1 million gift from his estate and the Starr F. Schlobohm Education Trust was established to provide annual gifts that will help the fund grow to significant levels.

"Starr Schlobohm's life touched many people," said Rev. Roger Dennis, a former member of the Community Foundation's board of directors. "His generosity and foresight have and will continue to open doors for many young people. For many in Russell, this unexpected financial support has been the difference in helping students and their families realize a dream."
